How do I find the what3words address for a street address, postcode or grid reference?

You can enter a street address, postcode and grid reference into the search bar in both the what3words app and online map. Please note that street addresses and postcodes refer to large, imprecise areas so you will need to find and select the specific 3 metre square you need. This could be an entrance or a parking spot, for example. 

How to find the what3words address for a street address or postcode:

1. Open the app or go to the online map at what3words.com

2. Enter the street address or postcode into the search bar and select the correct result from the dropdown options. 

3. You’ll be taken to a what3words address in the general area of your street address or postcode.

4. Postcodes and street addresses aren’t very precise, so you will need to select the exact location you’re looking for. To do this, switch to satellite mode. Zoom in and tap the precise 3 metre square you need. Tap it, and the what3words address will appear in the search bar.

How to find the what3words address for a grid reference:

1. Open the app or go to the online map at what3words.com

2. Enter the grid reference into the search bar and select the correct result from the dropdown options. 

3. The what3words address for the exact spot will appear in the search bar.
