How is what3words different to GPS coordinates?

Edited

GPS coordinates use a string of numbers to identify a location – the more numbers you use, the more precise the location. what3words has simplified the equivalent of 16-digit GPS coordinates to 3 words.

For example, the GPS coordinate 51.520847, -0.19552100 takes you to the same place as ///filled.count.soap (which seems a lot simpler).

Not only are they easier to remember, but they’re quicker and easier to say over the phone too. They’re also simpler to enter into a device or navigation system, whether you’re typing or speaking them. Additionally, what3words has AutoSuggest technology which helps users quickly identify and correct input mistakes.
