How do I set up what3words for Auto in my vehicle?

Please note that what3words for Auto is available only in compatible vehicles. Features vary per model. Find out more here.

Android Auto: 

1. Connect your Android phone via USB, or wirelessly if your car supports it

2. Android Auto launches on the head unit automatically

3. Tap the what3words app icon on the car display

4. Android Auto is a what3words Pro feature, so if you don't have a Pro subscription, you will see the screen 'Android Auto is a what3words Pro feature'.

5. Tap 'Continue in mobile app' to trigger the paywall on your phone (make sure to keep your phone unlocked during the setup process)

6. Follow the steps on your phone to complete payment

7. Once your Pro subscription is active, you can start using what3words features on Android Auto

Make sure you have Android app version 5.8 or later to access what3words on Android Auto

CarPlay (coming soon):

1. Connect your iPhone via USB cable, or wirelessly if your car supports it

2. CarPlay launches automatically on your car's display

3. Tap the what3words app icon on the CarPlay screen

4. CarPlay is a what3words Pro feature, so if you don't have a Pro subscription, go back to the what3words app on your iPhone and subscribe to Pro

5. Once your Pro subscription is active, you can start using what3words features on CarPlay

Make sure you have iOS app version 5.8 or later to access what3words on CarPlay

If you are accessing through your vehicle’s in-car app store:

1. Go to your vehicle’s app store

2. Search for what3words and download it

3. Once the download is complete, open the app and scan the QR code on the screen using your mobile device

4. Sign in to your what3words account. You’ll need to be a Pro member to use all of the app’s features
